Minecraft, awesome one man game project

Man lanterns are gonna suck. It appears that you need lightstone to craft them and only place to get lightstone is in the nether dimension. Easy lighting makes this game carefree, you just put some stick and coal together and presto, infinite lighting, without the ease its gonna be a pain to jump into the nether to get some stone. Blaaah.

I look forward to the increase in difficulty as a result of this craziness.

To make them, you need lightstone.

To get lightstone you need obsidian

To get obsidian you have to dig deep enough to mine it or find a supply of lava and water in which to create it.

To dig deep enough you have to light your way with torches.



Not really a big issue for people who are already have basis and gear, but yeah quite a new challenge for those starting a fresh game.

Depth has nothing to do with obsidian, outside of lava being easier to find at lower depths. Obsidian is only found naturally when water is generated in a spot where it can flow over a generated lava source block.

And no one has any idea yet how long the torches will last. It could be days.

I've found pockets of obsidian where there were no water sources and only lava. More then likely a fluke but it happened.


Another issue I have: My portal open up to a small piece of land floating in an open area above a lava drop. Any portal I create in the urth world takes me to this same portal. I can't go any where in the nether and have no idea what to do.

They kill me shortly after I getout of the portal. ITS NUTS! I'll post a screen shot when I get back home.

If they kill you immediately and every portal puts you in the same place, that sounds like unfair enough circumstances to warrant setting the game to peaceful and hopping in to actually get something accomplished.

IMO, "cheating" like that is okay when we're talking about an unfinished alpha that we all know has some pretty huge kinks to work out.

I don't recommend building your portal above ground level because you will spawn a portal up high in the nether, but I just like this stylistically so I built it. Needless to say I may have cheated with invedit a little bit, but who hasn't
