For what? Running along the goal line and not scoring right away? Maybe he was making sure the clock was run out?

I agree the celebrations are over the top, but I think the league needs to stop with the fines for everything, not do more of it.

b) he switched the football in his hands to the hand closest to the defender before crossing the goal line.

c) he actually swerved a bit from the goal line out to the 1 or two yard line before going over the goal line.

Ok. But by the letter of the rules, you cannot penalize or fine a guy for a celebration before he scores, only after. He should not have been fined for the one last week either. If the league is going to follow all these other rules literally and to the letter, such as calling a penalty when a defender brushes against a QB's helmet, then they should do the same for all the rules. Its no different than high stepping or flipping into the endzone.

I don't really care if they fined him anyway, its not my money.

On a gameplay related note, Jackson needs one more 50 yard TD in his next 14 games to tie Gale Sayers for the most before the age of 25. Jackson might be the best "big play" player in NFL history if he keeps it up.

I see nothing wrong with a celebration. It's a game of extreme emotion at times and you can't expect human being to be robotic in their reactions. But I think that celebrating and taunting are two wholly different animals.

I thought back on the TD. I know do indeed think he was making sure the clock was run down. You are right that it was, but I doubt he was paying attention to that while weaving in and out of players while trying to score. Int he stadium, the clocks are on the sides, and thats where he looked. Smart football play, the guy from Denver did the same thing last year (forget his name).

I also find it funny you compare it with the NBA and not the NHL. There is nothing more "ghetto" than starting a fight with a guy every time he out skates you or hits you or a teammate hard. "Tauning" is a no-no, but actually fist fighting once every few games is ok?

Just as long as it doesn't become as ridiculously overbearing as the college game.
A player looks the wrong way at the other team, or even the crowd, for a fraction of a second and they are penalized 15 yards on the kickoff or PAT. Just asinine. It has often completely changed the outcome of games (A.J. Green at Georgia last year, anyone?).
And seeing the refs run up to the players celebrating with each other in the endzone, minding their own business, and hurry them along and scold them for being there makes me just want to come through the TV and slap them around a few times.

I guess common sense isn't part of the officiating gig anymore.

Neither of those two actions are intuitive with "running out the clock". He went out of his way to do both.

Make up an excuse for that.

You obviously don't "get" hockey.

Hockey has always been this way. Even back when sports was a "gentlemans game". When you actually play hockey (which I do), you understand why fighting exists, and most likely agree with it.

There is actually method to the madness of fighting in hockey. It's part strategy (it can inspire your team), as well as part "policing" the game amongst the players themselves. You may think that silly, but it keeps your superstars from getting cross checked in the face by a player from the other team.

A two minute penalty (or as I call them, a "timeout") doesn't deter actions always. Nor does a five. Nor a ten misconduct. Nor a game. Nor a fine by the league. The threat of getting knocked out by a goon on the other team does for many players.

When fighting was more prevelant, there was also less "stickwork" (i.e. slashing, spearing, cross checking, high sticking) in hockey. Today, fighting is down, and "stickwork" is up. There are many who theorize that it's in no small part due to the decrease in fighting.

The NBA is full of "hood rats". The NBA itself has realized this and has gone through measures to try to clean up the image of their game by trying to rid the gangsta element from the game. This has never been an issue in the NHL.

Have you ever actually watched hockey or are you just guessing what you think happens? Never have I ever seen a fight start because someone outskates someone else.

By the same token, the trash talking and flashy showmanship has been part of basketball since at least the 70's. I don't see any difference in that today than from the Dr J days. How is it any different?

Again, I would not do it like Desean does. But I also don't have a problem with it. The "taunting" has become a part of the game since at least the early Deon Sanders days.
