Obsidian generator is on the wall next to the giant window area of the base. you need a single lava bucket and red stone.

We now have 18 stacks of melon slices in the food chest, over 2 stacks of wheat, and over 1 stack of steak.

That should hold us for awhile.

Linoleum if you are online later when I get home, I would be interested in you helping me setup a melon farm in the basement of my shack.

Well I figured out the lagging issue - just run it full screen (F11) Never had to before but full screen solved everything.

We should set up a mine cart transport from the base to the James shack/abandoned mine.

ok i tidied up the main common area...

    - added recessed lighting to most of the main rooms, no more unsightly torches
    - replaced most stone with cobbleston
    - installed a lava aquarium in the front

I moved out the single melon patch in the common area and put in a set of stairs that connects the lower room built a while back. I turned that into the portal room and the portal has been moved there.

I extended James' path near the base to end at the back of the apartments (where the sign for the downstairs apts is, on the back wall) and put a door back there to get out to the path. It doesn't look that great right now, but it works and we can clean up how it looks later.

I added a small tree farm off of the downstairs room on the other side from where the portal is. At least for me, I was getting lots of the invisible-leaves-bug when the trees grow, maybe because they're indoors.

The food box is almost full from melon slices.

are melons the best bang for buck food item?
they seem easy enough to plant and harvest but only 1 unit of hunger kind of sucks *need to have a full stack at any given time and takes a while to eat many*

also, anyone have tips on how to get rid of the screen artifacts while still using FSAA with a radeon card?

Melons definitely grow very fast...supposedly growing them without sunlight (like we are) cuts growth time by 50%, so we might even be able to double our speed. The most important thing is, they don't require leaving the base to get more of them.

Wheat farming is similar and produces bread which restores 2.5 units, but grows much, much more slowly and takes up more space.

Mushroom farming requires bonemeal, but produces mushroom stew which restores 4 units. The downside is, it doesn't stack as nicely, and if you're going outside to farm bonemeal you might as well just farm beef/pork directly (which also restore 4 units when cooked). Also cooked chicken gives 3, and they're likely to be out with the cows and pigs, too. However, I will experiment with mushroom farming today though.
