Nope.
Animals and monster spawning is set to true.
I created a tunnel that ties into the path near the back door of the apartments. It's a safe way to get between the two areas. Once you get into the shack area, just head down the ladder to the mine.
In the meantime fuuian has finished up the rails system between the apartment mines and the mine level under the shack.

I think they only spawn in forests, so our desolate little patch of land might not be the best environment for them.

Do we not have a forest near us? I figures that's what all that tree area to the south west was? I'm not being a smart *** I actually don't know what counts as a forest in this game.

I'm "pretty-ing" it up just a tad.
Also, I'm stealing your recessed lighting "look" for it, kp.. since it looks slick in the apartments.

I think that's actually a swamp. Swamps have the vines everywhere.

I've had single trips between the first village we found and the spawn point where I ended up with upwards of 30 beef. I think maybe open plains like that spawn more cattle or something. Add pork and chickens to that and you can roll up a LOT of good food very quickly.

Apparently I need to take a quick day trip to the village.
I never leave my shack most of the time. Too busy planting torches on every surface I can find.

I was going to set up a rail system to the village solely for beef. But I would need help with rails, since I don't have the iron/gold needed for it.

I have some gold I can add. Also, the abandoned mine has a bunch of resources in there.

K, I'll start building a tunnel to it... hopefully find some iron in the process.

Including minetrack for the taking. I think I already have 5 lengths in one of my chests in the shack. A lot of the halls in the mine have minecart track in the middle of them.

There is still a large portion that has not even been searched, but beware, I went down a new path and found about 10 mob spawns, and I did that twice today.

And seriously people, take ladders with you. There are alot of deep drops in that place.

I cleared out 4 of them while I was down there. 3 spiders and 1 zombie.
