Random note: I fought and killed 3 of the giant slimes down in the cavern below the base. Or maybe they were the normal ones? The slimes were 3x3x3 blocks in size, and when I killed them, they spawned 4 smaller slimes.

Is anyone having trouble playing this game with Win 7 /64 bit?

I don't play it , but I built a computer for a friend and his son loves this game. Twice in the last couple or 3 months he's brought the computer back to me saying it won't boot. Both times I've restored the machine to normal condition by doing a disc repair to fix boot up problems. This last time it hung at initial windows boot with a "data read error".

I'm almost positive this machine has no other problems other than his son's Minecraft play. Both times the problem started right after he played Minecraft. The kid loves this game and I'd like to find a fix so he can keep playing it. As of now his dad has stopped him from playing.

I don't have any issues here.

In other news, Finished the last floor of my building. It now is complete from bedrock to skybox. I'm now considering going back through and doing the decorating, but also maybe digging out around it so that every floor can still have a balcony.

Hey James, I'm getting an error saying "server is unavailable". It must be up because the map is still accessible. Maybe the MC server needs to be cycled?

Sorry about that Rush. I had the server down while I was trying to rsync over to the new server build I'm putting together. It was restarted around 11-12 EST.

Sadly, I don't have all the information, so I'll have to take another outage window at some point soon.

Pretty much confirms there won't be another "official" release before mid-November (although 1.9pre4 is out now...not sure what the pre is anymore if they aren't gonna call the next version 1.9 though ).

Also I haven't been following too close, but it sounds like maybe there is going to be a new Ender area (like the nether) with a new portal type to get there, so James I hope you're preparing another upgrade soon.

And this would be why I have no problems exploring a bit in the nether. I stayed boxed in far too long back when we were waiting for biomes to come around, so I didn't want to stay boxed in while we wait for the new nether blocks to come around.

An update:
Got the new server mostly up and running. rsync'd everything over, and started up minecraft. The same process that consumes 30-40% of the CPU on the current system runs at about 4% CPU on the new one.
Also, I did a completely from scratch build of the map for the server. What took about 6-8 hours on the old system now takes 5 minutes.

In other news, my building is 99% done. I have 4 more floors of decorative flooring to do. At this point, I'm calling it "open" and anyone who wants to move in is free to claim a floor for themselves.
Only rules I have:
- Leave the stairs and water chute intact for others to use.
- Leave the outside walls of the building the same to keep the appearance consistent.

Pretty much anything else goes.
