"Watches You Sleep" Shark
Guild WArs 2 Beta
Beta enrollment is live for 48 hours. You have to run a system scan to report your setup. The reporting tool is crashed because of the huge load on the servers. Good luck gents!

If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Into the Wasteland
I tried playing my old guild wars characters and was just getting owned. I had a couple 20s with all kinds of farmed/caught skills and couldn't even make it through one battle lol, and I don't want to start again. Sooooo off to try to get into the beta for #2 and hope all my sweet trophy things from 1 will make it to 2.

The constant instancing is what killed GW for me. Tons of people in the cities and then nothing when adventuring.

I think instancing is the downfall of the MMO genre. It took the massively right out of the picture.

Its the inherent issue you have with MMOs. Everyone wants to be the "The One" and instances are the way to give a "unique experience" that every one can play.

Awesome.
I really enjoyed the instancing in Guild Wars, but I also never really considered the game to be an MMORPG.

This is what I found too. A billion people in the towns all laggy and everyone just sitting around chatting and trading. Boring.. At least I made it through all of the Core instances and about half of the expansions before hanging my hat.

Not me. I think developers use the crutch of everyone wants to be a hero, but I don't think that is true. I think everyone wants to play a part, however significant that is doesn't matter as much. It is much harder to make a game with thousands of people making small contributions to an overall world rather than instancing generic experiences so everyone can kill the "troll king" and free the small town a thousand times.

Sure but it doesn't have enough structure. There needs to be events that happen and such. There needs to be more than player made goals. I'm not a game developer, but it it will be one of those things that when someone figures out how to make it work without instancing yet everyone feels like they made a noticeable contribution to the story or world, that it will feel like we should have been doing it this way forever.
I simply dislike how after 100+ hours of gaming, my character is practically the same as anyone else of a similar class or race. I think a good first step is making the actual player model change with levels, skills, deeds, etc. Take all my gear off and I look like a lvl 1 in most games.

But Eve Online does have a story and events!
