Diablo III Starter Edition - Play free up to level 13, or Skeleton King

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05...play-for-free/

Not sure if you're ready to take the plunge on Diablo III just yet? Not to worry, as Blizzard has announced a trial of sorts for its highly anticipated dungeon crawler. The Diablo III Starter Edition will let you access the first chapter of the game (up to the Skeleton King) for free. You're limited to level 13, though, and matchmaker results are also limited to your fellow tirekickers.

Where can I get my hands on this fine Starter Edition, you say? You'll need a friend who has bought the full game. Said friend will also need to fork over her Diablo III Guest Pass. If you're fresh out of friends, you'll just have to wait 30 days from the game's release (tomorrow), at which point the Starter Edition will be made available to everyone.
I'm still not sure whether this game will appeal to me or not, since I haven't played the first two. This might be a good way for me to take it for a test run. Now to find some sucker to part with their Guest Pass...

I'd be down for a starter pass if any one is giving. Canceled my pre-order, but I might just grab a copy at Target tomorrow.
If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

If there's a guest pass included in the digital version from Blizzard then I'll give it to you. Not sure where to find it at the moment, I'll look it up when I get back home. Unless this is only included in the retail copies.

Yeah, if I get in and get as addicted as everybody claims this game can be, I'll be on the hook for $60. It's a shame I don't have a billion other games to play at the moment...

I'd settle for a decent demo I don't need to wait a month for.

weird that a demo that lets you actually see a half decent amount of the game instead of just 2 minutes of gameplay that's not representative of anything is "marketing genius" or even worth mentioning at all these days
seems like other companies could learn. with digital distribution its so easy to get demos out. remember when the ut2004 demo took like a day to download because bandwidth was expensive back then?

Just looked it up, and saw this:

There's another catch with the Starter Edition: you need a Guest Pass in order to get it. Guest Passes will be included in box copies of Diablo 3. It'd be nice if they provided Passes with digital copies of the game as well but Blizzard makes no mention of this.
Sorry Area51. I'll keep a look out though and see if this changes.

Will wait a month, no rush to try it and spend $60. Wasn't impressed by the beta, but curious how the final changed.

No worries, thanks for the offer anyway. I'll survive a month if I have to. It's not a must have game for me, but I'm a sucker for impulse buys due to hype so I'll probably end up getting it at some point. Although, Max Payne 3 is coming out as well, and that's a series more up my alley.

Yeah, no box here either. That's pretty lame.
