Just sell whites to the vendor and buy all your gear on the AH. Maybe it changes at higher levels, but I may make myself not use the AH at all. Also crafting seems pointless at lower levels. The items are pretty much only blue in quality.
I completely agree, the auction house makes magic finding pointless. I've bought everything my wizard needs off it already. What's the point of doing any more? I'm already over 30k life and 8k DPS, and I have my next 2 weapon upgrades lined up.
The AH is going to kill the longevity of this game.

They will do with the AH the same thing they did with WoW – whenever there are too many high quality items they just patch in some new items that completely nerf the old items, and then they jack up the difficulty on the mob that drops the new uber items.
I still remember the Tier 1,2 and 3 item sets in WoW. My brother completed up to T3 for his Priest. It took him forever. Then BC comes out and all now blues better than the 50 hours worth of work you put in running dungeons over and over. They are on like T20 now or some nonsense like that.
They'll do the same thing in D3. They've probably refined it down to a science. I suspect that there is some threshold of trading 60 Rare and Legendary items where they'll just patch in some new items and tweak a boss battle.

Has got that jut
The auction house hasn't ruined loot finding for me because I haven't bothered to go in there outside of once for less than a minute out of curiosity. Pretty simple solution IMO.

What! I didn't know that!

The expectation is that by level 60 you will have chosen a build that you will stick with. At 60, you are actually given a Magic Find buff that stacks whenever you kill Epic and Champion mobs and resets whenever you quit the game or swap a skill/rune.

The merchants generally sell crap from what I can tell. Every once in a while you'll find one holding a Rare though, and that's usually very good.

I don't quite get this "chosen your build" stuff. I find myself switching up spells multiple times during an Act, depending on the type of enemy or engagement. I've found a few skills I try to keep in the bar, but even those swap out from time to time. I definitely don't think of my character as having a "build"
Perhaps as I find items that are keyed to particular skills that will change, but I duhno. I feel like it won't.

I'm pretty sure W switched loadouts in Diablo 2, but I'm pretty sure I tried to do it in Diablo 3 the first day I got it and nothing happened. I had been meaning to look up online if there was a way to have two loadouts but I just keep forgetting.

I just got my blacksmith to level 6, and noticed I could craft a new Rare fist weapon. It crafted with +3x dex, +8-11 damage, +1.05 spirit per second, and 1 socket. Originally it was ~65dps, added a Perfect Ruby and it boosted it to ~85dps. I was happy to finally craft something useful.

Yeap. Crafting is all about being able to create a decent item with a socket, then boost it to awesome. Sockets are random though, so sometimes you have to craft them a few times.

So is it worth spending the money levelling up the blacksmith then?
