I'm mainly just going to have two categories: one filled with the stuff I'm not likely to ever play again and one more with everything else. May decide to add more eventually but for now I'm just going to keep it simple.
The not likely to play again category would include games that just aren't good, games I got as part of a package deal that I didn't want in the first place, games that WERE good but that I'm just not likely to install again, etc. There are also games like Terraria that I'll probably put in there that I liked and that I may play again but that I'm unlikely to install again just on impulse; I'm only going to go back to Terraria if there's a new awesome content update or something like that, for instance, at which point I would actively seek it out and install it. Since I wouldn't just randomly see it on my list and decide to reinstall I'd rather just have it out of the way.
Comp - i7 950, Radeon HD 5870, 6gb DDR3 1600
Currently Playing - Gravity Rush 2, DOOM (2017), Nex Machina
Currently Reading - Dracula by Bram Stoker

The devs have actually come out and said that there won't be any new content updates for Terraria. One of the devs had a kid and wants to spend time with him and the other dev is off making Starbound.

That was just the first game off the top of my head that I mentioned but it's kind of an analogue for other stuff, the point being that there are games that I did enjoy playing but it's going to take an event of some sort like DLC, an expansion, etc. to get me back into them (unlike games such as SPAZ, Team Fortress 2, Beat Hazard, Red Faction: Guerrilla, etc. that I may just happen to see in the list and want to play again).

I figured you just picked it as an example, but I wanted to let you know regardless.

I put them in genres. Action, Adventure, FPS, Puzzle, RPG, Indie, Racing, Sports, etc. I use the favorites option to put stuff at the top that I want to play. When you cancel them from your favorites, they go back to their secondary category.

I have used the favorites category for anything that I am currently playing for years now. I have never added more categories, but the conversation got me thinking that maybe I should. The reason that I asked is that genre categories can be tough for some games. I like the current/finished/unlikely to play categories, but will think about it some more before putting the organizational work in.

I'm looking to trade F1 2011 for a comparable game.

Mine is pretty similar. I've got "Demos" and "Finished" as categories. If the game doesn't fall into those it stays in the default "Games" category.

What you gonna do?!?
Bigtime win on your end. The Witcher 2 is the best RPG i've played in a very long time.
