Sleeping Dogs Thread
this game is awesome! it feels like a mix of shenmue (locale, music, minigames), arkham asylum (combat), and GTA (sandbox with driving emphasis).
i have been disappointed with the GTA series where San Andreas was the peak; the driving mechanics and overall controls in GTA4 felt very clumsy and disjointed. The driving and controls in Sleeping Dogs are a HUGE step up and it is actually enjoyable to fight hand to hand and just drive around the city. it runs very smooth on my radeon 7770 (low/mid end GPU) with most settings maxed. i am using an xbox360 controller on my PC and it automatically has the optimal setup configured and feels very good with the gamepad.
im about 6 hours in and dont see myself stopping, its probably the most engrossing single player game i have played since Human Revolution.
got it for $27 at direct2play.com

Does it have that dark, Deus Ex feeling/setting/atmosphere whatever it is? (minus the augmentations and technology aspect)
I've been eyeing this game, and it looks like I'd enjoy it.

It's a great game. I think I'm 20 hours in or so and the overall game is a tighter package then the GTA series. Better story, better written characters, better gameplay controls (leveling, fighting, free running, and cover), and better vehicle controls.
The map is smaller, but i don't think this is a bad thing since the game makes the space work.

If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

its like Deus Ex in that it lands the athmosphere perfectly... in deus ex, you really feel that you are in the futuristic cyberpunk versions of detroit, shanghai, etc thanks to great art direction, AI scripting, and attention to details... similarly, sleeping dogs makes you feel like you are in a modern version of hong kong.
the gameplay strikes a good balance between realistic/frustrating (GTA4) and over the top, arcadey (Saint Row 3rd)
