    Oculus Rift = Game Changer

    i mentioned this tech in the kickstarter thread but believe it deserves more attention... i honestly think this thing will be a game changer like when we went from 2D to 3D gaming for the first time (SNES->N64).

    not just the obvious benefits to FPS but can you imagine playing say Forza with this thing and being able to turn to your left and see a car next to you and the track whizzing by? Or say playing a space combat game like Freespace and being able to look around the cockpit? Hell just think about a game like Mirror's Edge or Amnesia! I might even go back to playing minecraft again lol

    I've been excited about this for quite some time. I'll definitely be checking it out when it luanches. Doesnt seem like its going to be too expensive either. The dev kit only costs 300, so the consumer model will probably be ~200.

    Forget 3D displays; this is going to be the game-changer. I am super excited to try it.

    Considering GRID 2 doesn't have an in car view I don't see how Occ Rift will be fun with it.

    Woah, I didn't realize they did that. I always used the camera positioned on top of the hood rather than in-car, but I would have loved to be in-car with the Oculus Rift.

    im tempted to plop down the $300 for the dev kit since it ships in april.... the consumer model isnt expected to be out till late this year at the earliest and i really really want this tech.. 3rd party companies are already writing drivers to make it compatible with existing games like skyrim and l4d2: http://www.vireio.com/

    $300 is nothing IMHO, i was saving to get a 27" IPS monitor for gaming but this is worlds better for cheaper

    Racing games with this thing on might cause motion sickness, probably worth it though. I want to play something like Skyrim or Left for Dead with it on.

    I'm curious to see what the difference between the dev kit and the retail product will be. The video mentions ghosting problems with the current LCD screens they are using. For a dev kit, this isn't a problem but for the retail product it would be. They will also be changing the ergonomics as well. I'd hate to buy the dev kit and it be "taped together" and then have the retail product launch with all the kinks worked out for cheaper. I'll take a wait and see approach with this, but its going to be incredible if they fully realize their vision. It might bring back first person views to many genres such as MMOs. Flight sims would be incredible as well.

    im betting the dev kit will basically be the unit you see in the video above while the consumer model will be more streamlined like the mock up on their wwebsite (www.oculusvr.com)... my guess is that the consumer model will be lighter weight and have a higher res/higher refresh rate IPS/OLED screen

    in all honesty, the lower res (720p) is better for most people since you need to be able to push a steady 60fps in 3D mode to properly drive the rift and most console games (ps3, 360) are locked to only 30fps... steady fps > higher res

    im pre-ordering the dev kit as soon as i get the funds... yes the consumer model will be better and possibly cheaper but just the ability to mess around with this tech a full year early would be worth it for me... gaming enthusiasts easily drop $300+ for the latest graphics card that just pushes more pixels, this is truly revolutionary tech that I would gladly pay $500+ for

    Seems inexpensive for what it does, so why not. It ships with an SDK so you won't be completely lost if you have some programing experience. Personally, I won't spend the time to do anything productive with it so I will wait for the commercial version.

    I'm wondering if the SDK will be open to all, or at least the documentation. I'm interested to see what functionality is built into it from the start.

    This...if i was a full time dev then I could see myself going for it. I ahve way to many other hobbies I rather work on though.
