Awesome.
There are differently-sized cities within the regions - some are larger than others, but indeed none seem as big as they could get in SimCity 4. I have yet to see if this is actually a problem or just something that works differently now.

Hmm...the giant bomb look has me cautious. Are all city limits just a giant square? I dunno that really really bugs me. EVerything is just a square city....seems really unnatural.
I love having a power plant really far from my city and that seems like a no go for this. I guess I could make a separate city for just power but ugg...it just seems stupid.
Sad to see no terraforming...I loved that.
These limitations might just be a deal breaker for me. I'd like to try a demo first to be sure.

If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

The city boundaries have always been a square all the way back since the original SimCity. For the first time ever you can actually build curved and circular roads, so you actually aren't going to see square cities everywhere!

I rarely filled up the entire square and always had more of a circular/oval shape. I loved using the terraforming tools to create multiple tired plateaus and large bodies of water.
I can't really do that in this version which is sad.

Arstechnica's article about SimCity said it was hard to do curved roads without being a leach to other players around you since the grid-style is almost a must due to the size limitations. Going curved limits the usable land. This wouldnt be that big of a deal if the entire map was build able, but in the small squares it hurts. The original Sim City games did have squares, but they weren't nearly so small and artificial looking. Someone had a screen shot of the new SimCity city size compared to a Cities XL map and it was sad:
The size of the town in the image is the size of a SimCity city inside of a Cities XL map.

City size is limited to 2kmx2km... My 7200 population hometown is larger than that...
Some of the things that bother me so far:
1. City Size
2. No terra-forming
3. Always online
4. No save or load!
5. $60
Too much for me to swallow at the moment, especially the save and load. I used to save and try some risky stuff to see how my city could take it and then load my previous game after messing around. Not being able to save and load effectively ruins experimentation for me.

Ultra Great White Shark!!
On the one hand you have a much more detailed city, BUTT in order to have that they had to kill the size of the city and HOW MANY people can live in the city.
That, server issues, bugs, bugs, bugs, and more bugs, and also the price are deal breakers for me at this moment.

$60 is a lot for Sim Town. I'll probably wait till a real Sim City drops.

[Insert witty title here]
Going to reinstall Sim City 4.
All the talk I'm hearing on other forums of server nightmares and not being able to connect....I really hate where this industry is going.

You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. :P
The servers are definitely wonky tonight, but I'm really enjoying the game.

Very true. Polygon lowered their score. Hope it turns out to be good after a few patches. I was pretty excited for the game until the giantbomb quick look.

What you gonna do?!?
I think everyone should be wary of knee-jerk reactions on both ends of the opinion spectrum when games release. I highly doubt it is as bad as some see it and no way it is as good as others see it.

I'll likely get it when it gets cheaper and has the dlc rolled in. Hopefully they do bigger cities and subways.

There is definite potential for larger maps to be added (hopefully not as DLC):
“We’ll eventually get around to expanding the city size but I can’t make any promises as to when.”

That being said, I'm definitely looking to pick this up, but not at $60. I'll wait for a good deal on this one.
Origin name is either TheRealGumby or pktgumby, I'll have to check when I get home.
