I'm still trying to figure that out with regards to booster packs. It sounds like booster packs drop randomly as the community creates badges,

Depending on how that works, that could help introduce additional cards into the community. If a single badge creation (loss of 6 to 10 cards) drops 4 or more booster packs (at 3 cards per pack) then you have a net increase of cards.

My thought is that booster packs drop at a rate greater then cards are turned in. If true, then we should see more cards as the system ages and badges are unlock. Your booster drop rate also increases as you gain steam levels.

Booster drops can also be used by Valve to control the overall number of cards in circulation to keep the money market "healthy" while not making it crazy expensive.

Remember: Your chance of getting a booster pack increases with your Steam Level.

Also, I didn't get my card for my last purchase (<5 minutes ago). Maybe there is a delay or something.

Edit: There was indeed a delay. I still need Prison and Kerbal and have a duplicate of Football Manager and Chivalry.

I ended up trading for one and getting the other as a drop today. Then when I crafted the badge it gave me another drop. I now have 2/10 (Kerbal and Chivalry) for the level two badge.

Yup, that's the unknown variable here. From what I've heard by surfing the steam forums, it seems booster packs are rather rare. Have any of you guys gotten a booster pack yet? A bad part about the system is trying to trade with friends. For the most part, a friend has to give up getting a badge for certain games so that you can get one and vice versa. The randomness of booster packs most likely won't work for friends due to the smaller size of friend circles compared to the larger steam community as a whole. Given the fact that you can't trade with others unless they are your friend, the system nudges you to go to the marketplace, where steam gets a taste.

I've gotten a booster pack for FTL. You only get them after you max out your drops for a game. That said, in the last 2-3 I've maxed out 7 games. Basically farming droops right now to trigger booster packs

Yeah, Im already at rank 2 and have enough cards for rank 3 (just need to trade for Kerbal and Tomb Raider). I will probably go for rank 5 seeing as I can probably get the cards for around 10c a piece.
