Hey DrD. You haven't really given enough information to give you any input that would be more than a wild guess. Output from alsamixer and modprobe and such would be super as well as an idea of what the actual model of sound card is

Sound card drivers suck a bit in linux in general for Creative Labs cards, but check http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind...-Creative_Labs to make sure you're running the right ones as well.
