How important is scaning data disks?

I regularly scan my boot partition with several malware scanners. How important is it to scan my data hard drives? The problem is I have 9 hard drives ranging from 750 GB's to 2 TB's. I don't have any issues that I know of just want to be cautious as possible.

For grins - scan em with your favorite scanner and see if you find any nasties.

Not exactly practical for a quick security check prior to ordering something on Newegg.

hmmmm. Have no idea what ordering from Newegg has to do with seeing if you have viruses on your hard drives?

But since you mentioned you want to be cautious - scan the drives.... Viruses can hide anywhere.
