Yeah, that was going to be my guess. It was very common on my old Compaq laptop where the jack would get shorted and/or broken. Not sure if you are good at soldering but that is an option. Most PC repair shops will want at least $100 to fix it.
I've actually been thinking about this laptop lately because I'm going to attempt to do some soldering with my cell phone (usb port broke, so no power - seems to be a theme).
If I went the soldering route, can I just pick up a basic soldering kit from an electronics store or does such a thing not exist?
