    Post The Dell Review...

I did enjoy the review, but I got a one LITTLE point that I don't agree with:

I'd be willing to bet that the main purpose of the "AGP Metal Brace" is as a structural support for the case. I've seen this before in cases like the Asus (Elan Vitale) T-10. They're just worried that they got a very large open box made of thin sheet metal which could quite easily flex (esp in shipping). The brace helps to keep it a bit more rigid. The fact that it sits over the AGP card is just an added bonus.

Dell specifically pointed out that the brace is for AGP retention, so we just passed on their story. From the look of it, it could provide structural support, but I don't know if they'd want the video card getting mashed in if the case flexes.

I recently bought the Dell 8100 1.4 Ghz with THX certification and I have been very pleased with the performance. One other thing to consider with Dell in regards to price/value is that they often offer promotionals with their systems. For instance, with my system I received a free scanner, no-charge for shipping, and a free upgrade to DVD from standard CD. That knocked off an estimated $300.00. Not bad. The only thing that sucks in regards to Dell is that I didn't get in on their stock 10 years ago!
