Well, I got it figured out...I was on my server machine (which at the moment is my failsafe workstation since I goofed up my main machine) and it only runs 256 colors in order to get the higher resololutions (gimme a break it is an on board 2mb rage pro)
it will be back to the regular box in a little bit anyway....
