overclocking celeron 466
I have a celeron 466o/c582 on a abit BE6 mobo w/adapter.and I was goin to put it at 700MHz,and 2.30v AND it booted to the part where it says the CPU speed the the memory check and then it froze,so I rebooted and then it only booted to the part where it has the voodoo 3 3000 AGP thing(the first thing to boot)and it froze again so I rebooted,it did the same thing ,so I powered down hit the insert key and powered back up.and put it back at 582MHz.
And I would can to know if there is any way to get booted into windows at 700MHz

Using a celeron 466 I doubt it. The Mendicino core just can't ride above 650Mhz at all. In fact, you have to be doing something really right to keep it over 600Mhz for any appreciable period of time.

Overclock it and keep it cold.

What you need is a little bit of luck and a FrankenCooler. I managed to run my 466@735 rock stable through any test I could come up with. I even ran it in SETI for 72h without any probs. If you are ready to build a watercooler, that's the way to go.

I have never been into watercooling, but if you are going to try to push that 466 anywhere past 600Mhz, that is the route you are going to have to go.

Is there that much in the thrill ( or challenge) of the overclock or is it the performance gain? I see cases where the guys are spending more money on cooling than what it would cost to buy a cpu faster than what they are achieving.

It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people that have a medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity.

It is just fun for me. I do it just to see how far I can push my CPU.
And for the record, I have an Athlon 700 with a 900 core running at 1Ghz. $175 for a 1Ghz is not a bad deal.
