Red face Am i left in the cold with my A7V??

I bought this MB about 3 months ago, and already it's old news. I knew this was gonna happen, but i bought this board in hope that it would be compatible with the next Socket A cpu release.

Will it even work with the 266MHz fsb Athlons out there? Or will Amd continue shipping 200mhz fsb Cpu also?

The A7V have a max multiplier of 12.5, so how could i even make a 1.3GHz cpu work on this board without going out of specs on the fsb? Someone please help!

What Rev. A7V board do you have?

Well, that's the way it is in the computer world. Yep, my A7V, which was the hottest thing going late last year, is passe.

Not really. I intend to use my board for another 1-1/2 years. Because while there are now 266FSB boards that take DDR ram and all that stuff, they will be obsolete by that time too so I'll just wait. Don't panic and get a 266FSB board now, unless you like to throw away money.

I just bought a 1.333, 266 FSB, unlocked AXIA now since the chips are unlocked and may be locked later. I asked the same question as you and got hardly any response on forums across the web. Asus just told me I can go up to 1000 mhz with my Rev. 1.01 board. Guys with 1.02 Rev. boards say they can use the 12.5 multiplier at 100 FSB to get 1200 mhz, not bad. 'Guess I will just have to try.

    Thumbs up

I have my A7V too, and I'm happy with it even tho I probably won't be able to upgrade to futur tbirds, palomino.
Morgan the succesor of the duron will still run on the 200mhz fsb, meaning we may get better performance out of it, which would be the only real way to upgrade.
The 1.3ghz runs on a virtual multiplier of .5 more then 12.5, meaning 13. It's said that it will be the last tbird on the 200mhz fsb.

I've changed my board over and over to keep up with things, but I don't feel like it anymore, I'll just get a new box later this year or something.

And no, it can't run 266mhz tbirds.. (well it can run them, but on the 266mhz fsb speed.. meaning you can't get more then 13x100=1300 or of course with a little overclocking, 13x113(113 is about the max the kt133 boards do stable) = 1469.
Which is not that far off 1.7ghz, so I don't mind.

If you want a new board to be sure to be able to get a good upgrade later on, do so now.. while theres still people who don't mind having a kt133 board.
Do it before DDR becomes a common ground use at such a low price.

    Thanks guys for the reply!

I was wondering about those multiplier dipswitches too.. There are 6 of them, but only 1-4 is actuelly used for 5x- 12.5x. Could it be that the palomino will use these instead of relaying on virtual multipliers?
Even the 266fsb athlons would have a limit of 1666MHz with 12.5.. Or perhaps that is the intended max for the Athlon line?

It will probably use a virtual 13x multiplier, since palomino is said to end at 1.73ghz.

So i doubt seeing new multipliers for our athlons.

It seems a bit short that the Palemino only will be available after 1333MHz.. Only for 3 set:s of speeds.. 1466, 1600 and 1733MHz. I hope the die shrink will make it possible too go beyond that.

Any news on how many pins the Clawhammer line will have? New format?
