    When the computer first boots, the CPU's temp is the same as the ambient. If heat is a limiting factor, it will only become obvious within a number of minutes or hours, when the CPU's temp climbs. Extreme cooling takes care of the extra heat produced by extreme overclocking that makes it past the boot, but creates lots of heat.
    I can't really explain your results, but I don't find it logical that different types of cooling make any difference in the first seconds after powering on, since all the components are cool.

    Colt is right. Until I started water cooling, I couldn't post 1200, now with water cooling I can run stable at 1236. Coincidence? I don't think so.

    I would think the silverado is second best.
    Also the CPU heats up pretty fast so if you can't boot it could be because of cooling and not the limit to processor speed.
