Overclocking AMD...Need Help
I need help overclocking an Slot A AMD 800Mhz Athlon. I'm using a Chaintech 7ATA mobo with VIA Apollo KX133 chipset. The mobo can go up to 1Ghz so if possible I want to get the processor anywhere around 950Mhz - 1Ghz. I'm not very familiar with adjusting voltage and what not in the BIOS so if someone can give me few instructions on where to start do this it would be helpful. As for cooling I have 2 Panaflo 120mm fans 1 of which will be for the intake and the other for the exhaust. I think that should do it. Plus the AMD already has a heatsink and two fans on it. My IDE cables have been wrapped to increase airflow and I've installed a 300 watt PSU so let me know what to do next.

If you get a GFD (Golden Finger Device), which allows you to change the multiplier on your classic athlon, this will help you overclock much higher than overclocking via the FSB....
Just raise the FSB or multiplier....and check for stability (run some games like UT or a couple of loops of 3dmark...if it's stable keep going higher and keep a look on you temps as well....if you system is not stable, raise the vcore a bit to check for stability...

I dont like inlet fans. they create more turbulance in the case and can result in higher overall case tempuratures.
I'd rather stick them both in the back.
If the there isnt another hole? Make one
And perhaps provide biger intake holes or it might sound like a vacuum cleaner
Im thinking of 2 50mm fans over the 3 PCI slots under the AGP.That way it will draw cold air passed the GPU cooler as well as the CPU.I dont need those slots, got 3 more, and its nice to have that room around the vid cooler.
As for overclocking. its not very hard, just increase the FSB frequency till it dont boot anymore, then uplug it from the poswerpoint, remove the batter jumper(or the battery),replace it, plug in and start up to default setting and try again
unfortunately the Cpu clock multiplyer adjustment requires the use of a goldfinger device or simular addon.
These little card plug onto the Cpu Slot Card.
U have to break it open and remove the black plastic cover.Untill then, your stuck with mere FSB manipulation. Like me
Voltage may need to be raised as the CPU speed goes higher.Voltage is Pressure.
Increasing voltage will also cause the CPU to run hotter,so keep an eye on the temp.
If its idleing at over 45C, id back off, mine idles at 30 on cold days-40 on warm days. mostly about 10C over the room temp.
Ram is very important to reach high spees reliably. You May need to use the slowest ram timmings and still not be able to hit 117 like when i was using PC100Cas3 junk.
I have PC133cas3 of better quality also and its great, but faster ram would make superbypass run more stable as its very hard on the ram.
I dont know if your SlotA has superbypass enabled.the latest revision of the 751 chipset has a Fixed and noe working Superbypass.
If u have the chip,u may just need to update the Bios to enable the feature.
Just remember. If you go too far and the PC wont post to get u into the bios? just pull the plug and cat the battery. The bios will lose its memory, all settings included. It will then boot back to default settings.
Only heat can really damage anything, but it will ussually just hang b4 any damage is done.
Good luck.

Sorry, didnt notice. u got a via board. When i heard Slot athlon i presumed AMD750 chipset. So no super bypass, for u
Man this baby really flies.
My GF256SDR is the fastest in all of mad onions data base for any machine under 1400Mhz abd the same card chipset.
My CPU scores in that bechmark rival many a 1Ghz machine.
Mine hits 7x119 for 833mhz. at 120 fsb, it fails the real time clock test(i still dont know why)but everything else is holding up well and its as solid as a rock.
I clocked it to 833 low lats,Over clocked the vid to 160/210. then ran the 3D2001 demo looping at 1024x768-32bit for 8 hrs. woke up and it was stil going, went online, played a few 16 plaer games of MW4, surfed around.
Good ram is averything to these things.hope u got some
