Voltage mod and MC462/ChencChris/forum

I told ChencChris I would divulge the results as soon as I got all the parts.

Installed the MC462, Delta 80mm (really not that loud), and made sure the ground for the POT to adjust the vre was hooked up. Fired her up at the same settings I had before and checked the vre. 1.95 is now my default!, even with the POT turned all the way down, and I can only go up from there via the dial on the POT.

Anyway, it booted just fine, the temps checked out okay, they were actually less with more vre by about 3*C.

Anyway, I had to fiddle with the DDR voltage, settled on 2.6, it works best there.

It will post and run @1533, and I have her running 1510 right now, going to let her burn in at the new settings for awhile.

Here is what I am running right now.

2.05 vre
11x137.3=1510
motherboard 32*C
CPU 42*C

When I tried the higher bus speeds and a lower multiplier, the system seemed to think for a spitsecond before moving on (10.5x142.6), so I have to figure out what is causing the very minor thinking delays.

Was it worth it? Well, I was planning on getting the MC462 anyway, but if you factor everything in is cost about $100 for eveything and I got about 30Mhz. Prolly could have waited for the 1.4's and worked from there. Not factoring in the MC462 and Delta, the mods were only about $15.

Anyway, at least I have the voltage choices I didn't have before, the temps are lower even though I increased the vre by another .2.

You figure it out. It is very stable at this setting. Maybe down the road I might up the vre some more and try for some more. I am pretty sure I am getting to the CPU's limits here, but still not bad for a 1.2.

I will bet that 1.3 of ChencChris will do a bit better as the 1466 setting for me had its moments, so to speak.

BTW>The voltage mod was so easy, I pretinned the wire and literaly touched the connection on the chip with the pretinned wire and soldering gun for a .1 of a second, done, very easy, no problem. I did use an enormous magnifying glass with light, my eyesight sucks, but it was still easy.

Thanks a lot for the info. I actually swapped around the PCI slots since I realized that my Soundcard, my serial ports and my RAID controller are sharing the same PCI slot. After I eliminate the conflicts, the comp boots up fine @ 1.48GHz. I will attempt the mod when I have the time (which is probably August since I'll be away for about a month in summer for Italy trip.)

I am afraid to burn out the CPU.

Now running 10.5x146.3=1536.

My bus transfer rates have dropped considerably from my baseline bench I took @1426 (10x142), about 75% slower.

When the palominos come out I doubt you'll need the Voltage mod as it supposedly runs at 1.4 Vcore.
1.85 should be high enough to OC the heck out of it.
