Hey I have a newbie friend who put together hsi first rig, Amd t bird 1.1 gig and no name genric mobo and for free they threw in a hsf that look like it work have a rough time cool off a 386. In bios it was rating 199c? Sandra soft 2000 was rating it at 150c scary to say the least . On my rig right now I'm using a alpha w/delta fan, so I gave him my old oem AMD hsf and slap on some artic sliver to boot now it rating at about 50c at rest 55c at load not chilly not so hot the cpu might shatter in a too quick cool down, So 242f is almost artic cold in comp LOL

I am even surprised your MB will let you boot and let you do a reading at that temp. Either way your cpu should be dead or fried by now at 250 something f.
