Angry Can't get into my BIOS

Anybody experienced this? Boot-up and the screen says "Bios checksum error, Press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup" I hit DEL and get a black screen with a blue bar at the bottom. I then have to hit the reset button which re-boots the machine. If I press F1 my machine boots into windows and it runs perfectly. What do I need to do to fix my BIOS so I can edit it??? Any suggestions would be appreciated. BTW the Mobo is an Abit KT7A

I would try to reflash it with the latest BIOS version. Its possible that this may remedy the problem.

I thought I had tried clearing the CMOS last night but having thought about it this morning I'm pretty sure I forgot to unplug my PC before moving the jumper. Could it be as simple as properly clearing the CMOS? This is a strange problem. I have never had to deal with something like this before and I'm not even shure what the **ck I did to cause this! AHHH!

hehehehe... that must SUCK! ok, sorry for finding blatant humor amidst ur crisis.

Either clearing the CMOS or flashing it should take care of the problem. If it doesnt, then the BIOS chip soldered on ur mobo could be the issue, but thats gonna be harder to take care of... unless the chip is easily removed, which most are not. It may be something as petty as the wrong date, or a mismatched device detection. Have u made sure that the time/date in Windows is correct? Changing the time/date in Windows will change the time/date in CMOS, so that could take care of the problem. If the CMOS has a mismatch in the IDE detection, well, u can only change that in the CMOS, so ur back to the original problem.

I think I successfully flashed it last night. The Bios version now shows up as "WZ" when before it was "ww" the date associated with the Bios also changed. That leads me to believe that I successfully flashed it but this problem persists. I'll try clearing the CMOS the right way tonight. Hope it works! Not sure what to do if it doesn't. I bought this Mobo a spart of a system over the internet and they won't take it back after more than 30 days. This really sucks!

    Cool

Try to call abit at their US office and see if they can help you. You might need to replace the BIOS. (That last part was a guess)

Just one more reason why you shouldn't update your BIOS unless there are serious instabilities or hardware incompatibilities. If it isn't broke...

my guess is that your using an enermax power supply w/the rear fan plugged into your motherboard, plug that fan into the +12 volt line and your problem will be solved.

    Cool

I figured out what the problem was. I connected an 80MM fan to the FAN2 header. That fan was screwing up the BIOS. It must draw to much power or turn too few RPM's. Anyway it definitely was the cause of my problem. Take the fan off FAN2 and presto! I can access my BIOS. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The #2 fan header was for a duel fan for the cpu on the abit mobo's. You;re not the only one that has pluged a fan into that header so don't sweat it.
