    Post Defective 1700 XP's?

I have had three of these and 2 were DOA and the other lasted 3 weeks. Put them in my Shuttle ak31. No OC. My MSI MB confirms
the death with the 4 red led's. The last one
smelled like it had burned up. But it just sat there beeping. I do everything by the book. (wrist strap etc.)
Fortunately newegg keeps giving me new ones and they are exchanging my Shuttle for a MSI
K7t266 Pro 2. I also have a Global Win Cak38, and a Volcano 7 with AS II. Is there any chance a faulty power supply could be behind these deaths? Any ideas? THX

The chances of you getting three DOA 1700+'s in a row are pretty much insane..I'd start looking at other hardware issues.

That is exactly why I am getting a new MB and replacing the power supply with the new one from my other computer. I can't imagine,
    sound, or video doing this.

A bad mobo or PS could have caused it.

I am not saying that Flapdoodl is right or wrong, but my first AMD 1700 just did not operate. I thought I smelled burning but it was very faint. It could have been the CPU being used for the first time. I tried it on another board and got the same results. I was using an SK-6 with Arctic Silver. And yes, it was well positioned on the CPU. Am now awaiting a replacement. I hope I don`t get a repeat of my first episode.

There have been several voltage issues with the AK31 mobo. HardOCP had trouble getting their voltage to be normal, even at +.1v they had only 1.75v. I can't get mine over +.1v, else it reverts back to default. My guess would definitely be the motherboard. This is definitely my last Shuttle mobo, especially since they won't even acknowledge the problem. Good luck with the new hardware.

Hmmm I've got two rigs at work I just built this past week both on the shuttle boards..one running a 1700+ and one running a 1900+...both installs went flawlessly...I couldn't have had a better experience with them.

Now to top it off, my son just got a 1800 XP
and it did the same damn thing. His Duron 800 runs great before and after. He has an Abit Kt133 based board, with the new xp bios. Also, I forgot to mention, one of the 1700's I put in the MSI
for the coroner report, actually ran for about 2 seconds, just long enough for the first boot screen to become visible, then POW! Burned circuit stench. I put my 1200 t'bird back in the MSI and it runs great. I think the 1700 was already mortally wounded
before I put it in my MSI, but the MSI being much more stable than the Shuttle, it was able to catch it's dying breath.
