    Apparantly true. Link from HardOCP.

Here's what is un-impressive for me. 1.6Ghz Northwood OC's to what 2.1Ghz lets say. You have a XP1900+ equivalent then. New mobo, perhaps new ram; not for me. Now for those with sub Ghz systems this could be a nice way to get your foot in the door. Only question is how much compatability will there be between 400 and 533 FSB parts.

Saps, when you look at the whole picture, the average consumer will be buying the platform as a whole, not upgrading from a current setup. Even if you wanted to drop a Northwood into a current rig, you only eliminate the upgrade path if you have an AMD system (or a Socket 423 motherboard). The AMDites don't complain about upgrading from a KT266 to a KT266a motherboard, but moan about Intel compatibility. The P6 after it moved off Socket 7 had exactly 2 packages, one slot and one socket. You can argue that there were several FSB revisions, cores that were incompatible with chipsets etc., but in that time AMD went through not only more sockets/slots (K5 thru the K7), but also more FSBs. The Athlon alone has had Slot A 200 FSB, Socket A 200 and Socket A 266. Even within the 266 motherboards, compatibility with the Palomino is by no means assured.
