Best socket 7 AT motherboard...

i am wanting to replace my motherboard but i want to keep everything else(processor,case). what would anyone recommend as the best AT motherboard for a k6/2 500? thanks.

Try an ASUS P5A-B.
You can run all the way up to a K6-2 550MHz.

Not bad for a board that came out when Intel 233MMX chips were hot.

whatever you do dont get the FIC 503+...ive owned 2 of them and they both crapped out on me...spend some more money and get a quality board

I've built a couple systems using the 503+, since for people on a budget it allows them to use their old simms until they can afford dimms, and they are still plonking along just fine. Even have a K6-2 500 running a-ok on an earlier revision that FIC says can't support the 500mhz chip.

However, the P5A-B is just an awesome board. I had an older revision ( 1.03 ) and still it ran an sdr geforce with nary a problem. Even though it only has 512K cache it out performs boards with 1mb or 2mb, it really is just the epitomy of Asus quality )

Although, even though I'm a fan of AMD, this person might to well to consider snagging an AT Celeron board/celery since they are better than the old k6-2 deals, and k6-3's are absurdly priced. There's also a Tyan SLOT 1 AT board, drop in some 400mhz slot 1 cel and upgrade it to an 800mhz slot 1 PIII later on. Whatever, just some thoughts...P5A-B though all the way for AT super 7 if you go that route.

I agree emphatically with zombor. My last computer (dismantled all of 6 days ago) was built on an FIC 503+ board with a K6-2 350. Aside from the fact that I could have used a few more PCI slots (3-P, 3-I, 1-shared), my main super-gripe was that my AGP never worked correctly. I am pretty sure this was a combination of my AGP chipset and the drivers but no matter how many times I tried, even after formatting and starting from scratch, it never worked. Go with Asus. They rock.

I have a Tyan Trinity S1598 mother board I use with my AND K6 2/500 uP. Tyan makes a good mother board and has been tested and approved by AMD.
