Asus CUSL2 Help me Please!
I'm about to buy the Asus CUSL2 motherboard and I'm just trying to make sure that a PIII FCPGA processor will work with the Intel 815E chipset. Most of them say they work with the 810E chipset and I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be a problem, but I really don't want any little suprises when I get the components... Also I tried to find the Hercules Prophet II 32MB video card but came up short, know anywhere that has them in stock? I'll probably go with the Elsa Gladiac 32MB instead but I was really looking forward to the video out... Thanks for your help
If God lives inside us, like some people say, I hope He likes burritos, cause that's what He's getting!

If anything, the i815 is a *better* choice than the i810. The i815 is optimized for the Pentium III, and shares a lot of the logic from the i810 GMCH. You can think of the i815 as an i810 with AGP support (but it's a little more than that ).

Personaly I would wait to buy motherboard. I was looking at the cusl2 a little while ago. Until I saw that crucial memory is selling ddr memory. Which means that the motherboards aren't far behind(I heard the end of this month actually). I bought the cuv4x about the three months ago just to hold me till the ddr stuff arrived and I bought a p3 flip-chip that needed a mobo. Of course if your not looking for the latest than the cusl2 is a great board from what I hear and read. I usually don't buy the latest either(I'm still using a 3d prophet sdr) but I have been holding off for the ddr technology.

I have just purchased and setup a cusl2. All in all I like it. However there is a problem. The cusl2 does not like the Diamond mx series of sound cards. When installed a message about the card not being on the "primary pci bus" will appear. U will have no gameport. There is a work around posted on the dejanews forums but it must be followed to the letter. Mine is working but it was a frustrating endeavour. The mobo has my PIII 700 E running at 840 mhz with pc 100 mem and a retail box fan--rock solid stable and cool. Wont boot at 133 mhz but I havent tried high voltages and the pc 100 mem wouldnt like it anyway. All in all I like the board.

Tejasammy just sent me the fix for the problem. Check out the post "MX300 on a ASUS CUSL2." It works!
Good luck,

You want the i815E chipset. The Asus CUSL2 is an excellent choice and will give you little problems as long as you dont get a Diamond sound card. I dont think I would hold out for the DDR memory. Intel isnt going to support it with a chipset for a long time. I think VIA will come out with one but their chipsets are...well...no so very good. This setup of yours sounds great and should last you for a couple of years at minimum.

Actually, the ddr chipset is almost here. Anandtech ran a benchmark on a beta board for the Athlon (same chipset works for both AMD and Intel) and it absolutely rocked. Intel has even given VIA official permission to develop ddr support for the PIII as they are bound by an agreement with RAMBUST to only develop chipsets for RamBUST.
