A non-gamer spends most of his time in the 2D world, I would go with a Matrox card (perhaps the G400). Matrox is known for having the best 2D in the business.

Go with on board video... that should be more than enough

A non-gamer wouldn't care about the video card. My dad doesn't know the difference between a Geforce 2 Ultra or an old Trident 1 Meg.
*edit* that doesn't care about 2d quality either. Onboard Video should be sufficient.

I know the dude is not going to know the diff between cards, but I'm sure the 2d is going to be important to him, after building a pretty decent machine I'm sure he's going to want to see a sharp colorful display..

The Matrox G400 is nice if you want to spend the cash. Another thing is if he will be watching DVDs or other things that arent games, yet you need a decent vid card. A geforce 2 mx is a good choice there, or a Radeon 32ddr.

i would have to say onboard video would be adequate, i find the 2D on the i815 to be quite sharp
if he must buy a vid card, an MX, Radeon SDR or any Matrox would serve well, all are under $100

Go to www.Jaton.com and look around. Get him something with half decent 3d so if he gets a game or a kid shows up they can have a bit of fun.The B-32 Plus is a 32m Nvidia rig w DVD.
Sharky, Tom and Anand haven't reviewed it so "gameboy inc." doesnt know about it. Look around... they're good cards. About $65-$70.
I install allot of them. I posted earlier for an opinion on them and got no results.
They should've named it sadomasochistictortureblastation. Then
they could charge $175 for it.
