Which Ti500 for good DVD quality?
Well I was set on getting an 8500 until I just found out that ATI is basically killing beta driver release. I know that they say that technically they aren't killing beta driver release, but just "restricting it" yeah right, I can see through the big company bull $h!t.
Anyway, now that it looks like I'm going to get some type of GF3 card I was wondering which one have good DVD quality. I've always been used to ATI's DVD quality. I have an AIW Radeon right now (Which STILL has driver issues that no matter what I've tried have never been fixed, not to mention many of my games that lock up randomly due to some ATI dll file that give me BSOD in win2K pro SP2) Are there any GF3's out there that have as good DVD playback as the AIW Radeon? I was thinking of probably getting a Gainward card because I heard that they were really good.
Also I don't plan on buying it until after the price drops from the GF4 release.

I know it doesn't answer this question, but I got my AIW Radeon to work properly in XP Pro by using the June 1 2001 MS driver Radeon AIW AGP. I can do everything I'm supposed to be able to do. I've been told it doesn't have OpenGL support, but I don't use OpenGL, so I can't confirm or deny that.

dvd playback is a matter of hardware not software. All GF series have identical capabilities in the video playback. Software only assists. nVidia hasn't released a dedicated dvd player ( like ATi dvd player) so you must use a 3d party software player like PowerDVD or WinDVD. These programs will make some use of your GF's ability to handle dvd's but mainly will use your CPU. So, your search is only limited to a card that has a software player in the bundle.

If you intend to watch those DVD's on a TV screen your best bet is the Leadtek or Herclules cards. They have a better dual display chip and higher TV out resolution.
I'd go with the leadtek GF2 ti200 TDH 3.8ns ram, full body cooler,1024x768 TV res and the possibility of hitting 270/600 if you get lucky.

Hehe, I think the GEForce 4 will have some good DVD hardware capability from what is rumored. Going with that.

Well I may even wait for a GF4. Even though they will be rediculously expensive when they come out I think that it might be worth it considering that I only upgrade my video card once every two years or so. I'm not in any hurry right now and I think I'll just wait it out and see what happens.
Lots of things going on right now and lots of questions that I want answered: Will Hercules pull off good 8500 drivers? Will ATI release significantly better 8500 drivers soon? What's the next ATI card going to be like? What's the GF4 actually going to be like? etc. I can wait a few months to see what the answers to my questions are before I decide.
