AGP fastwrites problem....
Last month i built a new system, an Athlon 600mhz (classic) on an ASUS k7v mobo with 128mb cas2 pc133 memory. I also bough an Elsa Erazor X (Geforce, not ddr) to go along with it. The system runs great, but when i enable AGP fastwrites, (which is done through the bios) the system crashes when i run any 3d game. I'm using nvidia's detonator 3 drivers. I'm running windows ME now, but the same thing was happening to me when i was running win98. I thought fastwrites were supposed to increase performance....please help!

Fastwrites isn't giving you much performance increase, in many cases with some chipsets it's actually decreasing performance. So, if it doesn't work, just disable it.

I have the same problem. My systems runs awsome aslong as you have fast write off but when you enable it all games lock up right away I've contacted asus via email several times but they never responded. If you find anything please post it.

Hi.
When I use to play games like UT, Deus Ex demo and Half-Life they can suddenly freeze so that I have to restart my machine. Perhaps I have to disable AGP fastwrite if it's enabled ? Where do I disable it ?

Have tried to set AGP on 2x?
This solved my problem, although i have a ASUS P3V4X motherboard.
You won't notice any decrease in performance with AGP 2x.

I had similar problems in Deus Ex for ever. I finally disabled Fast Writes in the bios, and made sure AGP was 2x. Since then, I've had no unexplained crashes. Seems that AGP 4x is more of a pain than anything...

Definately disable Fast Writes from the System BIOS. I have yet to see any benefit from this setting, other than interrupting your computer time with a reboot!

check out www.geforcefaq.com for a registry patch to make the geforce more compatible with VIA chipsets.
