SB Live Value vs. Aureal Vortex2
hey just wondering what you guys thought about these two cards. I've only got about $50 to spend on a sound card and these two both fall into that range (with the Aureal being about 5-10 bucks less). Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, sicko

I have both of those cards. And I have say that the Sound Blaster has better sound quality then the Aureal card. Also at the moment Aureal is dead and you wont find any drivers for their card. Thats a reason why I switched back to the Live Value. You can find the Live Value for $35, thats how much I paid for it.

Get the SB live value, definately.
I'd like to know where Duo found it for 35 bucks. All the OEM versions I've seen have gone for closer to 50.

I'd also go for the SBLive value... its the best card for the price, and it does have incredible sound

SBliveValue. Ive seen it for as little as 35 bux at some Online retailers, but that doesnt include SnH (probably jacked up to like 10 bux). I saw it OEM at a computer show/sale for 40.

Vortex 2 has better 3D sound. The only problem is, this comes with a noticable speed hit. I have no idea why, but it's nowhere near as fast as the Live! (c'mon, 40% of my system power to play a MIDI?). LiveWare 3.0 brings it close, but the Vortex still sounds better with 3D audio.
But as was said, Aureal is out of business (or close enough), so the Live! is probably going to be expanded on much more than the Vortex 2. Mind you, I don't think much more can be done to the V2. The latest drivers fully support EAX 1.0, and A3D 1.0->3.0.
Personally, I prefer the Live!.
