    Post Creative's New (7.1) soundcard??

The rumour has it that the new Creative Soundcard for late this year...

    offering 7.1 speaker setup....
(remove the gameport, and put more speaker outputs)

So, what's the big deal between 4.1, 5.1 and 7.1???

    WAIT!
I can just imagine the sound of 7.1 speaker set, cost of mere $100.... (?)

    Strengths
    stock fan
    2200mhz @ stock v-core (200 X 11)
    2300mhz @ 1.75v (200 X 11.5)
    2400mhz @ 1.95v (200 X 12.0)

Going higher than 2400mhz is near impossible with air cooling.

what's the need for 7.1? that's just plain stupidity, oh and I guess we have to buy a separate daughter card and spend more money on the gameport.

The extra 2 speakers are for side left and right channels. I've seen some of the very high top end home theater recievers offer the 7.1 output. I don't know if it offers a huge difference in sound or not, but I would imagine eventully it will be the new rave.

Thanx man. I was just thinking if I wanted to buy an X-Gamer 5.1 for the computer I'm going to build or wait until a new technology comes out. Now i'll wait.

Heh it's kinda funny the way alot of speaker setups are now you pretty much have to have a dedicated room for your computer to have proper setup of the surround sound.

I can imagine when I get older i'll be telling my wife:
"Now hunny we have to leave this spot on the wall open for my new speaker setup.."

    Wife:
    *rolls her eyes and sighs*

    hehe

Why not a 9.1 setup. You need to here those helicopters flying over you and your footsteps.

Nah, that's not enough. I'd much rather have an 18.4 or even an 18.8 setup.

How about 6D speaker setup? The six faces of a room are actually six big speakers.

Is there anywhere where I can read up on this new soundcard. When it's available, etc..?

7.1 is a derivative of the Dolby Digital Surround EX spec guys, its not some arbritary amount that Creative came up with. If this is true, I'm sure the card supports that spec.
