Hercules GT XP ... how to set up surround sound?
I just bought a Hercules Game Theater XP card and Monsoon MM2000 speakers, and I';m running Win2k Pro. I downloaded and installed the latest drivers (2.1 i think).
In the XP driver console I set the speakers to "6" and the speaker test will play in all 5 speakers.
However, when I boot up Quake 3 (or Thief 2 or Half Life) I only get the front speakers. Also, I get only the front speakers from winamp playing mp3's or cds.
I set the speaker settings in the "sound and multimedia" palette of win2k to "5.1 surround".
What really got me bent out of shape is this: I was playing an mp3 in Winamp and the rear speakers had no sound... I opened the windows sound palette mentioned above and saw that the speakers were set to "desktop". I set them to "5.1 surround" and suddenly all the speakers were playing. Sweet! Yet after that song was over, the next one reverted to the 2 speaker thing. I jacked with all the settings, even replayed the same song, but could not get the rear speakers to come back to life. ARGH!
I spent some time scouring this forum, but can find no explanation of how to set up 3D sound with the Hercules. How do I do this?

I don't know about Q3, but music programs do not support ACTUAL 3D sound. I know what I used to have to do with my Monster Sound MX300 card was to set it to StereoX2, which would just take the sound going to to front speakers and play the same thing in the rear speakers. Don't know if the XP has a similar setting... I actually have the card but I'm at work so I can't check Good luck!

You have to set the GTXP to 4 speakers. 5.1 speakers is only for dvd's. Their drivers suck, enough for me to switch back to my live.
