    Post infrared as a modem port?

    can i use my infrared port on my notebook to play modem or lan games? How would this work? Any help would be...helpfull

    Do you have an IR receiver you can plug into an external modem or another PC? If so, I think the baud rate through that port is limited to 9600 but could be wrong. Those IR ports always give me trouble - stopped using them all together..

    the port you want to use is not really made to shuffle that kind of data around, or at a high rate of speed. It is designed basically for printing and as such would have roughly the same through put as the LPT port. It is possible but I think you would be very dissapointed at the final result.

    well in the infrared control panel, it has a maximum transmision rate setting, which i have at 4Mbs. Are you saying that it cant go that fast? This is a brand new notbook. In my dialup properties in win2k(not sure about 98), it says i can establish a dialup connection thru my ir port.

    No kidding..4 Mbps? Hmm.. That's quite a bit faster than I had in my older P233 Dell notebook.
