Question What TCP/IP port does AIM use?

What TCP/IP port does AOL Instant Messanger use? I'm behind a firewall and I need to open up the port.

I think you can set AIM to work on any port you want

    HTTP (web browsers) (port 6588)
HTTPS (secure web browsers) (port 6588)
    SOCKS4 (TCP proxying) (port 1080)
SOCKS4a (TCP proxying w/ DNS lookups) (port 1080)
SOCKS5 (only partial support, no UDP) (port 1080)
    NNTP (usenet newsgroups) (port 119)
    POP3 (receiving email) (port 110)
    SMTP (sending email) (port 25)
    FTP (file transfers) (port 21)

i got that from my proxy documentation, if that's the type of port you have it on, there's your answer...otherwise, if you're talking about the other type of AIM port, i think it can be almost anything

Even though I am the Systems Admin, I don't want to get the natives wrestles. I just recently took up this job and have removed all non-company related software (i.e. Comet Cursor and WebShots). Also I've instituted a new policy that restricts such software. I don't want to be a hypocrite, so I'll be using the java version. Unfortunately it is not able to connect, so I'm thinking it's the firewall blocking a specific port. That's why I asked.

AIM uses tcp/ip port 5190. Not sure which Firewall software you're using. I know Firewall 1 has an AIM object predefined.
