    Post Using Uplink on hub...how??

Hello all, sorry for not being on for a long time, but I've been stucked into playing a game..(Homeworld:Cataclysm)

But anyways, I'm going to be hosting a BIG LAN party(the biggest in my area...15 people)but I only have an Intellinet 8 port and two 5 port hubs....and they have Uplink ports on them...how do I use them to link the hubs??

    Thanks

You should be able to plug a crossover cable from one hub to the uplink port of the other.

Actually, you shouldnt need crossover cables for this. Just use a normal patch cable from one uplink port to a normal port on another switch. Its when hubs dont have a uplink port that you need to use a crossover cable to connect them (and likewise if you are connecting two uplink ports together - but then they arent intended to go together).

nabu is spot on. an uplink port crosses over internally before the RJ45 socket. so a straight through cable is all you need.

Sorry about my first post, my brain was in lalaland.

You run one patch cable from one port on the 8-port to the uplink on one 5-port and then do the same thing with the other 5port. That should leave you with 6 usable ports on the 8port hub and four on each of the 5 port hubs for a total of 14 usable ports.
