It sounds like you want a firewall. From what I understand ZoneAlarm is a good free firewall.

Check out BlackIce Defender by NetworkIce. With its 'Paranoid' setting it's friggin' impossible for anybody to get past it! It's not free though, and you sure get what you pay for...

Right now! Remove printer and file sharing from the NIC that has your internet connection. TCP/IP should be the only protocol bound to that adapter. That will block any file sharing or view of shared resources over the internet.

Next, get a firewall - either hardware of software.

okay, i just unbound my fileshare from my network card's bindings. will that stop people on my own network from accessing that or is that ipx/netbuei? and i'll check out that firewall mentioned above that was free..

I would unbind file/printing sharing from the "Dial-Up Adaptor" instead of your network card.

check out www.grc.com - they did some kind of firewall software testing a while ago, and Zonealarm was the only one that passed all the tests.

Damn, that IS scary then! Weird.

Is that URL EXACTLY what he typed to you, it didn't have anything else in it did it? Also what OS are you running on? Do you have a log of the converstion you had with him? oh yeah and.... what was his sceenname, hehe.

Its pretty easy to get someone's IP from AIM, you can do it from a command prompt even. All you need is a connection (IM) open to him to find it out.

Just remember that the info there is somewhat outdated now though.
