Post Moving DNS over from NT4 to Win2KServer

What's the easiest way of doing this? I've checked compared c:\winnt\system32\dns on both PC's and it looks like Win 2000 has a different method of doing DNS than Win NT 4.0 - is there an easy way of moving the DNS entries over or do I have to retype everything? Thanks.

    hi!
win2k DNS is dynamic, so if clients support DDNS they can update your DNS for you. ie, when they get their ip addresses from DHCP, either the client or the DHCP server can update DNS automatically. as for static entries, i'm sure that you can just copy across the DNS database, but i've never tried it myself.

You are right in that NT4 and Win2k DNS work differently.

    Try this.

Setup the win2k box as a secondary server for the zone.
Do a zone transfer to get the initial stuff loaded onto the Win2k box.
Try to make the Win2k box primary for the zone.
If it works, you be done.

Here is an article on using zone transfers to migrate to Win2k DNS.

    Now running Windows.Net 5.10.3541
