PDA's and Outlook compatability
Hi guys,
I've absolutely no experience with PDA's / Palmtops etc. which is why I'm asking here
My boss requires a Palmtop computer of some description (he likes Palm 500 and the HP Jornado). It needs to be compatible with MS Outlook (not outlook express), and mainly with a view to using the Calender function. He plans on Synchronising it Palmtop with his notebook (Acer 734 PIII), runnign Win98/Novell, and soon to be Win2k/Novell.
Are there any issues I need to be thinking about - would a Casio or Compaq running WinCE be the best (keeping the MS flavour), or will the proprietory OS's be OK?
Any input would be great, thanks

If you get a PalmOS-based PDA, Chapura's PocketMirror conduit will probably come with it. Look here: http://www.chapura.com/html/products...supported.html
PocketMirror lets the PalmOS apps sync up with Outlook, and it works very well.

man im on my second pda thanks to the company i work for as a intern every summer they have bought us a new pda. First was palm IIIe very nice at the time but limited memory and DIDN't come with software to sync up with outlook. But they got us a handspring visor this year, which is soooo much better than palm because of all the expandablilty for memory and gadgets. And it comes with the software needed to sync with outlook and other email programs. I use outlook for datebook addresses etc. just hit the sync button and im good to go. I say almost and new high class pda will have software to sync it.

Thanks for the response
What are the Handspring Visor's like to use? It's mostly going to be for reading data, and not entering it (fortunately). Would you take one of these fellas over a Palm?

the visor is just as easy to use as palm its based off same os, the main thing i like about the handspring visor is its expandability, so say you want to but a book on it, you have get a memory expansion and read away. I love it get the handspring but interface is same as palm very easy to use, a 5th grader could use it.

They're pretty much identical. The Visor's ship with nicer calendar software. I believe they come with a newer version od datebook. It might be different on the newer Palms as I have a Vx.
PocketMirror works great for sync'ing with Outlook. The Vx comes with an older version of PocketMirror. Just be aware that if you want to sync with subfolders or shared folders that you will need to get PocketMirror Pro from Chapura.

Handspring are the original makers of the palm (they made the palm pilot). I feel the Handsprings visors are a lot nicer to use. The expansion cards on the palms are to small and easy to loose. The wireless internet is cheaper with the visors. If you want to go with a visor go with either the prism if you want color or the visor platinum. If you really want color for cheap or need a palm then go with the IIIc. DO NOT GO FOR THE 500 OR 505, they have problems with the new OS 4.0.
