Student PDA
So, I'm going off to college, and I'm quite interested in a Palm or Handspring Visor to help keep track of things (assignments, to do, and so forth). I'm good with the pencil and paper method, so I know I'll probably make use of it.
The ones that I've looked at are the Palm m105 and the Visor Deluxe. Anyone have any suggestions or experiences with these two? Or suggestions for a diffrent model? Thanks.

I would suggest you go to school first and see if you really need one.

I would reccomend the Visor Delux. My friend has one and it's not too bad. The USB connection is nice and fast and the programs for it are great. Also, for what you get the price isn't that bad!

It really depends. If you are planning on getting atatchments like GPS navigation or PDA cams, then I would go with a Handspring Visor. If not, and you just want something for addresses, date books, task keeping, and other similar tasks, go with a Palm. Right now I'm in High School and I use a Palm Pilot m100, which I love, and it's a pretty good conversation topic. Odd as it sounds, girls are actually more curious about them than guys are. But, the choice is yours though. What i definately suggest is making sure that whatever you get, get a carrying case for it, because the last thing you need is for it to start downpouring and only having the plastic cover to keep your palm or handspring protected.

It really depends on what's important to you and in what order. My summary:
*Sync speed: Visor
This is important if you install a lot of apps or if you plan on using Avantgo, Showtimes, QuickOffice, etc. I love my Palm Vx because it fits nicely in my pocket in its aluminum hardcase. However, I'm not very happy in the morning when I sync. I have to hit the sync button and then go off and shower, shave, etc. It takes a long time since I use all of the apps listed above in addition to BackupBuddy. A full restore with my Palm Vx (nearly 7MB) took AGES! My wife's Visor Deluxe runs all of the same apps and syncs in a flash (by comparison).
*Size: M105
What can I say, it's smaller. Could be important if you want to just put it in your pocket.
*Screen: Visor
Well, the smaller M105 loses here, IMO. The M series screens are too small for me. You might be just fine with it though. Be sure to check out working models of each product in a store.
*Expansion: Visor
Yes, you can use devices on the M series serial port, although it's nowhere near as elegant as the Springboard on the Visor. The only problem is that Visor modules aren't cheap.
Hope that helps at least a bit.

There are many pros and cons when comparing the two platforms.

It's like telling someone "buy a Viper, it drives a lot faster" when that person may need a truck or something else altogether. It really depends on your needs and priorities.

Hmm, depends on how much money you have to spend, and you want need it to do.
If all you need is a basic address book and to-do list, a Palm m100 would fit the bill for $129.
If you want something that can do wireless e-mail and web browsing, open Office documents, play MP3's, take voice memos, AND play Pocket Quake, you should get a Compaq iPaq H3670 with a PC Card sleeve and wireless network card. The cost on that? About $800.
I know which one that I WANT, but I know which one that I'd end up buying if I was still a college student!
