    Unhappy Internet Explorer is jacked...

    howdy everybody,

i don't know why but recently my internet explorer doesn't load all the pictures on webpages anymore. it's very sporadic--sometimes it loads some pictures on a certain page but if i press refresh it may or may not load the same pictures. i even installed the new IE 5.5 to see if it helps but i still have the same problem. does anyone have any advice? thanks very much.

    There's one universal cure-all.

    01. Insert bootdisk
    02. Restart computer
    03. After boot sequence, type format c:
When done formatting, copy *.* from the Win9x directory on the CD to a folder on the C: drive.
    04. Run setup.exe from said folder.
    05. Follow all onscreen promts and supply any requested info.
    06. When install completes, load all necessary drivers for components not detected.
    07. When finished, rejoice in the fact that you have a nice clean install of Windows with the newest drivers.

You forgot the first step ... backup all documents and data to save. And there's no need to copy to folder at C: ... you can install from the cd. Win98se and higher are also bootable so you don't need the bootdisk.

However, this is a in_case_nothing_else_works solution. The problem might be that some image formats (jpeg, gif) aren't asociated (err ... did I spell that right?) with IE. I remember myself having this problem some time ago. Reasociating those formats to IE solved the prob i think ...

Nice vague reply, but how does installing from the Windows CD get you all the "newest drivers". You still need to dig these up yourself.

On the topic at hand, I've been noticing the exact same thing lately in IE5.5 on one computer. It's even bad enough that sometimes it takes two clicks on a link to get anywhere (the first click immediately calls up the DNS error page). I've been blaming it on the internet connection/local DNS server, but your post is making me think it may be software related - especially since none of the other machines here suffer from the problem.

Not sure what the easy solution may be, but I haven't really looked yet since I've been assuming a different problem - I'll start digging around today if I find time.

edit: looks like Humus and I replied at the same time, but I'll address the association thing - this isn't the answer. Especially if you need to work with graphics files often, you certainly don't want them associated with IE.

The symptoms are very much the same as the connection timing out too fast...

After hunting around in Deja news for a while, I've found a few others with this problem, but only non-sense answers like "Tools->Internet Options->Advanced" and checking "Show Pictures" - but this obviously isn't the solution since pictures often do show up.... Still looking....

edit: More info: one guy suggested everyone having the problem is on Cable; I'm on a University T1, what are you on? Maybe it is something with a fast, permanent connection?

If you go into add-and-remove in control panel. Just highlight microsoft IE 5.5 and hit the remove button. It should then post a window asking would like to repair ect.. Just repair it.

I started getting the same problems after upgrading to 5.5. I am also getting the problem where if you scroll...then scroll back ...everything is gone. It stinks when you have to click refresh 12 times to see a whole web page. I tried the repair thing. NO DICE. I tried the feature that reverts back to the previos version of IE. NO DICE. I deleted IE 5.5 and re-Installed IE 5.0. The problem is still there. The only thing I can come up with is that the IE5.5 upgrade corrupts the OS and the only fix is that nasty "R" word.
