How do you make an MS-DOS boot disk?

I want too know how too make an ms-dos boot disk? I need it too install my new drive and am too lazy too go figure it out. HELP anyone?

You can do it this way in Windows 9x, but I don't know about 2000, Me, etc. Open your Start menu and select Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Click on the Startup Disk tab and you're there. It's always a good idea to test the startup disk.

Like Lou mentioned, it depends on what operating system you're running. The method he describes is probably best if you're running Windows 9x or Me.

If all you need is basic functionality, or you're running plain ol' DOS, you can use one of the following at a command prompt:

FORMAT A: /Q /S
This command quick-formats a floppy and transfers enough of the OS to make it bootable.

SYS A:
Sort of like the above, but without formatting the disk. Whatever information is on the disk isn't erased, and this command just makes it bootable.

If you're running NT or 2000 (or even XP, I'd presume), there isn't a way to make a "DOS" boot disk or something similar.

The final option is to go to www.bootdisk.com and download one of their pre-made boot disks. They're sort of like Hallmark is with greeting cards: "One for every occasion," so you're bound to find something there that'll work for you.

In XP go to my computer, right click on the A drive and choose format. Choose the create ms-dos boot disk option
