That's why you temporarily disable it when you do anything CPU-intensive where ya need those cycles.

my moms bank caught the love letter virus on friday becuase some idiot at the one of the affiliate banks down town opened the e-mail & downloaded the attachment thinking someone actually had feelings for her. lol. so since my moms bank is networked with that bank & all the other banks in the area all the computers went haywire. well my mom told me it was a big mess, she said she got the same e-mail like 70 times on her e-mail account & all the other banks computers were getting it too. the only thing they could do was to delete all the e-mails coming in. the guy she talked to said that the loveletter virus was set to send itself around at this time. strange though, i havent gotten it yet

Are you 100% positive that the mp3 was the cause of the virus, or just a file that was affected by it. I'm 99.999999999999999999% sure that you CANNOT get a virus from a mp3.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It would need to be executed some way and decoding an MP3 doesn't allow that function.
Hmm if it's possible then I'd sure like to know how..

Yeah, an MP3 is just raw data, nothing is executed from it....just decoded and sent to your soundcard(very simplified) I'd think it's from somewhere else.....maybe it's the "music industry" trying to get back at us for stealing the songs...heh, wouldn't be moral/legal, but very effective

I wasn't getting anything else off Kazaa at the time though, just a few mp3's, then Norton pops up saying it's found the loveletter virus in one of the .dat files in my shared folder (the files are .dat until they finish downloading), i deleted the few that i had (Which were all mp3's at the time) and then scanned the system and it was gone. Tis very very strange...

Well, then in that case it may have been a virus with an .mp3 extension attached to it then. Did you do a general media search or was it for music only, because you might have just caught a bad break this time.
