What tools do you use?
What compilers/developer tools do you use?
What do you recommend and what do you think people should stay away from?

Well, for web design, I use plain old MS Notepad for basic XHTML layout and design, and then Allaire ColdFusion Studio for ColdFusion coding when adding more interactive elements of the page.

As am I. Though, Borland has it's charm. A much smaller amount of buttons and options. Less of a hassle. If you're not doing a LOT of C++ programming, use Borland. (when I say a lot, I mean small programs, not infrequent programming)
