    Post Just picked up XML

    Hey all,
    I have some free time on my hands at work so I decided to start reading up on XML. Right now, I'm on chap 3 of like a 10 chapter book. Seems to me like it's HTML on steroids.
    I guess i wanted to know if anyone else ahs had experience with it and what types of applications/pages they wrote with it.

    Hey Klashe!

    No, I haven't had any experience with it (yet) - I only read a few pages about it. But I must say it looks quite useful - definitely not something that has to disappear as fast as it came. Eventually I will get the time to look more seriously into it. I'm thinking all those custom tags will be great for some. But there's always db's, so I don't see what sites that don't use databases will need tags like that for. Maybe it can be used for some nifty custom commands. Tell me what you think are the benefits so far.

    XML is being used a lot in the transfer of data. Either in house or B2B. XML gives the flexibility to transfer data between the databases with unlike schemas.

    Well, from what I see (i am only on chapter 3), it looks like it has the ability to talk to any DB ever made and to be made and display that info to a web page. Powerful? sounds like it.
    Plus, it looks like it creates a standard for xfering info across platforms. You no longer have to write a custom app to read info from prog a into prog b.
    It alsso looks like it relives a lot of stress off the web server. Alot of times when you refreshing info from a server you have to reload the whole thing. XML has it's own stylesheet where you only have to download the part of the data that has changed.

    This is what I see so far (being only on chapter 3 ).
