    Post Webservers and you.

My dilemma is this. There is a site I go to that houses an array of star trek episodes stored in divx format.

the problem is they use freedrive to store these episodes.

    Freedrive is bad.

Now, I can set up an FTP to host some of their files from my computer, but FTP is inconvienient.

How do I make my computer serve up a HTML document from my hard drive whenever someone types http://myipaddress

    ???

How do I make my computer a webserver!?

and mods, if you think this is the wrong forum, move but please oh please dont delete.

Do you have windows 2000? If you do just install IIS(internet information server). To install it go to add/remove programs->windows components and check IIS. Then go into the administrative tools in the control planel to turn on the web service. Name your homepage default.html and put it in the website root directory(administrative tools tells you that). If you don't have win2k, then download Personal Webserver from www.microsoft.com... or just install linux and set up apache...

I'll keep the post up, but don't post links to pages that contain copyrighted material.

You CAN actually get Apache for windows 2000 also, but this is still being developed, and is probably targeted for more advanced users.

Apache isn't that hard as everyone thinks it is. I set it up pretty much on my own on a Win2k system. The onlt thing I got help on was the DNS configuration which is only indirectly related to apache.
