    Post Using iframes....

    What I'm trying to is get an IFRAME to change its content to a description of a link if the user hovers over that link.

    Here's what I thought might work:
    Code:
    <A HREF="http://www.3dfiles.com" ONMOUSEOVER='desc.href="desc_3dfiles.txt"'>3d Files</A><BR>
    <IFRAME SRC="hover_instruct.txt" NAME="desc" HEIGHT="80" WIDTH="500">
    <p>Iframes not available<p>
    </IFRAME>
    But it doesn't Anybody out there a real hotshot web guru and can help me out?

    Why are you going with Iframes? Is this an absolute must? I personally don't think it's posible to do what you're asking, and have it work in 4.0 browsers. I would personally think it would be better to use layers instead of Iframes...as far as I remember, Netscape has 0 support for Iframes anyways.

    It looks like layers are only supported by Netscape? I was also reading about sneaky things you can do with a <DIV> block....

    EUREKA!!

    Ok, I figured out to make it work. It works like

    top.desc.location="new_desc.txt"

    provided that your Iframe is named "desc" and you want to open "new_desc.txt" in it. Now I'm going to write a little CGI dude that dishes up the URL descriptions

    iframes don't work on netscape if it's anything < 6 ... perhaps in your line of text for the people who don't have iframes, offer them a link to your text files? There are a LOT of people out there who still use something less than netscape 6, or an old version of IE...

    Congrats on figuring out the hover tho!
