No you don't to be a mathematician to program. Math is an essential part in Computer Sciene. It is actually the queen of all sciences. I'm doing Computer Engineering in college now, and I almost have a math minor under my hand.

Simple math is required for programming, math develops the mentality for problem solving which is at the heart of programming.
